The telephone rang in the wedding fairies’ shop.
Lula flew over to answer it.
'Hello, Wedding Fairy Favours,' she said.
'Hello. This is The Queen speaking,' said a voice.
Lula was surprised!
'How can I help you, Your Majesty?' she asked.
'My grandson, Prince Alex, is marrying Miss Daisy Lovelace soon, and we require wedding planners who can keep our secrets safe,' said the Queen. 'We would very much like you to do the job.'
'Ooooh. Oooooh!' exclaimed Lula. 'We would love to!'
'How jolly super!' exclaimed the Queen. 'Alex and Daisy will be pleased. We will soon send you a letter with our needs. Goodbye and thank you.'
Lula told her fellow wedding fairies, Fifi and Coppelia, the good news!
'It's a dream come true,' giggled Fifi.Soon enough the letter arrived from the palace, just as The Queen had promised. From the Royal office of Her Majesty The QueenRockingham PalaceLondon SW14th JanuaryDear Wedding Fairies,
We are delighted to confirm your role in the organising of the Royal Wedding. We will require the following:Hand-made invitations, dresses for Daisy and her flower girl, Little Rose, a splendid cake, a wedding banquet and flowers.
Please let us know when the first dress fitting will take place.
Thank you for your help.Yours sincerely,The Queen xxxx
And so the fairies set to work. 'Let’s design the invitation cards…' said Lula.
'I'll sketch possible dress styles…' said Coppelia.
'I'm going to make trial wedding cakes…' said Fifi. One day, the fairies were excited when Daisy Lovelace and her flower girl, Little Rose, came into the fairy shop for a dress fitting. Daisy was very pretty and kind. Little Rose was thrilled to meet the Wedding Fairies and she looked around the shop curiously. 'Everything is so adorable!' she said, staring at the fabrics, flowers, sparkles and tempting cakes.
Lula measured Daisy’s height, waist and arm length… While Coppelia measured Little Rose in the same way… And Fifi wrote all the measurements down in a fairy notebook...
'Here are the dress styles we were thinking of!' said Lula proudly showing off the design book.
'Oh, how pretty,' said Daisy. “I’d like this one, please.'
As for Rose, she also loved one of the fairies’ designs: 'Please may I have this one?' she said.
'Of course!' agreed Lulu. The fairies worked very hard over the next weeks.
The invitations were sent by fairy post…
And tiny satin buttons, beads and pearls were stitched onto dresses… It was all such hard work. The little fairies became sleepy… And they got sleepier…and sleepier… Until they became the sleepiest they had ever been…
'We must send everything over to Rockingham Palace today,' yawned Lulu.
They looked proudly at their work as they packed it into a special Royal van.
'I'll put the food and cake in,' said Fifi.
'I'll do the flowers,' said Lulu.
The fairies settled down for a nap.
'Come along! Let's see everything,' said The Queen.
Daisy and Little Rose followed her.
'The dresses! The dresses!' squealed Daisy.
The footman took off the dust-jackets.
Tada!
Daisy's face crumpled. 'Aaargh! she groaned.
Rose's eyes opened wide and her lips trembled. 'Oh no!' she said.
Something had gone terribly wrong! The bride’s wedding dress had been made in Little Rose's size and the flower girl dress had been made in Daisy's size!
'The fairies have mixed up the sizes!' sobbed Daisy. 'What are we going to do?'
'Poor little fairies,' said the Queen. 'I think we have exhausted them!'
'Why don't we try the dresses on anyway?' said Daisy.
'Okay,' agreed Little Rose.
And that's what they did.
'I actually like this one!' said Daisy.
'And I like this one!' laughed Rose.
The wedding day was a dream.
No-one ever knew about the mix-up with the dresses! Sssh! It's a secret!
